HUNGARIAN CATHOLIC SOCIAL SERVICE

Description:

The Hungarian Catholic Social Service is the official professional methodological centre of the Catholic Church in Hungary. As an institution, it provides everyday care for older people, premature babies, infants and young children with mobility and other developmental disabilities, and people with severe multiple disabilities.

The organisation also offers shelter for adults and young children in vulnerable situations, operates a mental health rehabilitation centre for young people with cancer and their families, and has recently started providing support for people with addictions and their families. Its work is guided by the spirit of the Catholic Church and carried out with the involvement of professionals, with the aim of building value-centred local communities.

A particularly important area of its work is the Dementia Programme, a unique initiative in Hungary that brings together people, families and communities affected by dementia. Through awareness raising, public communication, information and education, the programme helps prepare citizens and promote more dementia-inclusive communities through initiatives such as Dementia Information Hours (DIÓ), Alzheimer’s Cafés and Senior Dance sessions.
