KAUNAS DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY
Description:
Kaunas District Municipality is one of six so-called “ring municipalities” in Lithuania. The term refers to its geographic shape – it surrounds a major city (Kaunas), but the city itself is a separate municipality. Kaunas District is among the fastest-growing municipalities in the country. Primary healthcare services are provided by three public institutions owned by the municipality (Pakaunè PHCC, Garliava PHCC, and Vilkija PHCC) as well as by 12 private healthcare branches.
Kaunas District Municipality puts a special focus on dementia and neurological diseases. Vilkija Primary Health Care Centre provides outpatient services, inpatient long-term care, nursing, and palliative care. Special focus is placed on inpatient nursing and home-based care services. The centre currently operates 70 beds for long-term care, including 36 beds specifically adapted for patients with dementia and 5 beds for palliative care. Services are provided by qualified professionals who continuously improve their skills through internal and external training. Patient comfort is a key priority: patient rooms are being upgraded from four-bed to two-bed configurations, common areas are created for social interaction, and special attention is given to balanced nutrition, with meals prepared on-site based on both dietary standards and patient preferences.
To strengthen community spirit and emotional well-being, various activities and events are regularly organized. The Centre also invests in staff welfare by upgrading workspaces, modernizing break rooms, and organizing staff outings and team-building events.
