About the pilot
The pilot consists of a comprehensive dementia awareness intervention combining audiovisual production and in-person sensitisation activities. Its main activities include creating a short documentary film and related digital content aimed at raising awareness about dementia through a non-stigmatising, person-centred and community-based approach. The audiovisual material will be the central resource for structured sensitisation sessions complemented by participatory activities, guided reflection and educational materials. The pilot addresses persistent stigma and limited understanding of dementia and other neurocognitive disorders. It aims to shift perceptions from a purely clinical or dependency-based view towards a model emphasising autonomy, dignity and everyday community support.
Objectives
Primary objective
To contribute to reducing the impact of dementia through awareness-raising and sensitisation activities addressed to different population groups.
Expected outcomes
The pilot is expected to improve participants’ attitudes, knowledge, empathy and confidence regarding dementia. Expected changes include greater understanding, reduced stigma and increased willingness to interact with people living with dementia. These changes will be measured using a questionnaire completed after the sessions to assess empathy, beliefs and knowledge.

Lessons learnt
During the design phase, a key challenge was defining session formats capable of generating a meaningful impact on participants. Another difficulty was adapting the approach to the different target groups, including older people, caregivers, students, professionals and families, because each audience requires tailored communication and delivery strategies. Further lessons will be added as implementation progresses.
Sustainability and transferability
The pilot is designed to be transferable because it is based on reusable audiovisual materials and a structured session methodology. Once developed, the resources can be adapted and implemented in other regions or countries with minimal modifications, supporting continuity beyond the project duration.
Health literacy
The pilot improves health literacy by increasing understanding of dementia. Through audiovisual content and participatory sessions, it helps participants improve their knowledge, reduce stigma and understand how to support people living with dementia in everyday life. This fosters more informed, empathetic and confident decision-making.
