About the pilot
The JADEHealth WP7.3 pilot aims to strengthen dementia and stroke prevention through two complementary interventions targeting healthcare professionals and community-dwelling middle-aged and older adults. The pilot addresses the growing burden of dementia and the limited awareness of modifiable risk factors, despite evidence showing that a substantial proportion of dementia cases can be prevented through lifestyle and cardiovascular risk reduction measures. Healthcare professionals in primary and secondary care will receive evidence-based educational materials and training, followed by knowledge assessment and focus group discussions to explore implementation opportunities. Community activities will be delivered through general practitioner practices and regional community settings, including municipalities and social care services, where participants will receive prevention-related information, awareness-raising materials, and screening opportunities. The pilot will evaluate reach, knowledge improvement, and feasibility to support the future integration of dementia prevention into routine healthcare and community services.
Objectives
Primary objective
To pilot and evaluate an evidence-based dementia and stroke prevention model that can be integrated into primary care and community settings in Hungary.
Secondary objectives
To enhance healthcare professionals’ capacity to deliver dementia and stroke prevention messages and interventions. To improve health literacy and awareness of dementia and stroke prevention among middle-aged and older adults. To generate evidence on the implementation, acceptability, and scalability of prevention activities to inform future national roll-out.
Expected outcomes
Increased knowledge and awareness of dementia and stroke prevention among healthcare professionals and middle-aged and older adults. Improved capacity of healthcare professionals to communicate evidence-based prevention messages and support healthy ageing. Enhanced health literacy regarding modifiable risk factors within the community, leading to greater engagement in preventive behaviours. Strengthened collaboration between healthcare, social care and community stakeholders, supporting the future integration of dementia prevention into routine services and local health promotion activities.

Sustainability and transferability
The pilot is based on evidence-based educational materials and implementation methods that can be easily integrated into routine primary care, hospital health promotion activities, and community services. The materials and training approach can be adapted and transferred to other regions through existing healthcare , health promotion (Offices) and social care networks. Collaboration with national and local stakeholders will support long-term sustainability and future scale-up.
Health literacy
The pilot will enhance knowledge, awareness and informed decision-making related to dementia, brain health and stroke prevention through the development and dissemination of an evidence-based prevention toolkit, educational resources and digital solutions. It will test and validate a transferable good-practice model for delivering prevention activities across healthcare and community settings, generating practical evidence for wider implementation and scale-up.

This pilot project targets two complementary populations. The first target group comprises healthcare professionals, with the objective of strengthening their knowledge and competencies related to dementia and stroke prevention, risk factor identification, and health promotion. The second target group consists of middle-aged and older adults recruited through general practitioners and regional community venues. The pilot aims to improve awareness of dementia and stroke risk factors, provide preventive educational materials, and offer screening activities, including cognitive screening and assessment of modifiable risk factors. The overall goal is to support prevention, facilitate early detection of cognitive decline, and promote healthy ageing within the community.
