About the pilot
Non-pharmacological multicentre pilot aiming to strengthen dementia and stroke prevention. An evidence-based toolkit with brochures, infographics and training materials will be co-developed and disseminated through specialist centres. Participants with SCD, MCI, TIA or minor stroke and their caregivers will be assessed for modifiable risk factors, receive tailored educational materials and be re-evaluated after about six months. Impact will be measured through risk-factor changes, acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, usefulness and usability scales, complemented by qualitative focus groups.
Objectives
Primary objective
To increase awareness and prevention of modifiable risk factors for dementia and stroke through an evidence-based educational toolkit.
Secondary objectives
Co-develop an evidence-based prevention toolkit. Map modifiable risk factors and disseminate tailored educational materials. Evaluate perceived impact, acceptability, usefulness and usability of the intervention.
Expected outcomes
Improved awareness of modifiable risk factors for dementia and stroke, increased uptake of preventive actions, and evidence on the acceptability, appropriateness, feasibility, usefulness and usability of the educational toolkit among participants, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
Results
Not available yet. Pilot implementation is planned from January 2026 to June 2027. Results will include baseline and follow-up assessment of risk factors, implementation outcomes (AIM, IAM, FIM, TAM-PU-4, SUS) and qualitative feedback from focus groups.
Lessons learnt
Key facilitators include collaboration among specialist centres and evidence-based materials tailored to risk profiles. Potential barriers include participant engagement, follow-up adherence and variability across sites. Mixed-method evaluation will support future optimisation and scale-up.
Sustainability and transferability
The pilot supports the dissemination and implementation of an evidence-based toolkit on dementia and stroke prevention across participating specialist centres. Standardized educational materials and multicentre implementation will provide evidence on the toolkit’s acceptability, feasibility, usability and perceived impact, contributing to the strengthening of prevention strategies.
Health literacy
The pilot aims to increase awareness of modifiable risk factors for dementia and stroke through an evidence-based educational toolkit. The intervention supports informed decision-making and encourages preventive behaviours among patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
