FUNDACION PARA LA FORMACION E INVESTIGACION DE LOS PROFESIONALES DE LA SALUD DE EXTREMADURA , FUNDACION PARA LA INVESTIGACION DEL HOSPITAL CLINICO DE LA COMUNITAT VALENCIANA, FUNDACION INCLIVA ES

About the pilot

This pilot will test digital screening tools for the early detection of neurocognitive diseases at pre-dementia stage. The pilot will focus on adults aged 50 and older with subjective memory complaints and dementia-related risk factors. Participants will complete a screening process using selected tools, potentially including a validated cognitive screening instrument and a digital self-administered tool.

Objectives

Primary objective

To assess whether digital screening tools can support the early detection of neurocognitive diseases at pre-dementia stage and facilitate timely referral and treatment.

Secondary objectives

  1. To identify individuals at risk through screening.

Expected outcomes

The pilot is expected to provide preliminary evidence on the feasibility of using digital screening tools to identify individuals at risk of neurocognitive diseases at pre-dementia stage. It will also assess user engagement and experience with the screening process, and help identify practical requirements for implementing early detection pathways in Valencia and Extremadura.

Lessons learnt

Lessons learned are not yet available, as the pilot is still in preparation. Preliminary planning suggests that active involvement of primary care centres and healthcare professionals will be critical for recruitment, referral and long-term implementation. Time constraints in primary care and limited resources may be important barriers to address.

Sustainability and transferability

Long-term sustainability will likely depend on the active involvement of primary care, institutional support and potential alignment with regional health policies. The final report will identify practical barriers, facilitators and recommendations for future implementation.

Health literacy

The pilot may support health literacy by increasing awareness of cognitive symptoms, risk factors and the importance of timely assessment, helping participants and families understand when and how to seek professional advice.
