Pilot actions for early detection in young onset, vulnerable communities and predementia patients and education of healthcare specialists

Lead entity: BYLGARSKO DRUZHESTVO PO DEMENZII

BSD's pilot interventions target both healthcare specialists and patients, depending on the separate pilot.

The planned educational pilots are aimed at healthcare professionals. The pilot design will involve distributing educational materials and the developing educational dementia programs. The format will range from presentations to leaflets or other content, targeted at GPs, nurses, neurologists, psychiatrists and other relevant healthcare professionals.

Screening pilots will focus on patients from several specific groups: young onset, vulnerable communities, and predementia. Part of the recruited patients in these target groups will be screening through the usage of digital tools.

Education and Early Detection multidirectional impact - Basic Direct Efficient Guidelines

Lead entity: WARSZAWSKI UNIWERSYTET MEDYCZNY

The pilot will be based on education/diagnosis/early detection and providing the response to the clinical sittuation. All of that will be mostly based on training towards various recipients. In details we are going to: a) Present data on dementia, in medical and non-medical approach b) Provide trainings on early detection of dementia as well as risk factors leading to development of dementia and other factors leading to progression of dementia - especially for health specialists;
c) Educational material being the response to different clinical situations (risk factors of dementia) diagnosed in patients. d) Educational material for patients at risk of diseases leading to dementia - to avoid development of the disease (risk factor) d) Educational materials for patients or their relatives (or medical staff) regarding the possible actions that could be initiated to stop the progress of dementia.
d) Providing educational information for students and children about dementia to decrease stigmatisation of the elderly at risk or in dementia - optional

Pilot on Digital Screening for Neurocognitive Disorders at Pre-Dementia Stage

Lead entities: FUNDACION PARA LA FORMACION E INVESTIGACION DE LOS PROFESIONALES DE LA SALUD DE EXTREMADURA , FUNDACION PARA LA INVESTIGACION DEL HOSPITAL CLINICO DE LA COMUNITAT VALENCIANA, FUNDACION INCLIVA

This pilot will test digital screening tools for the early detection of neurocognitive diseases at pre-dementia stage. The pilot will focus on adults aged 50 and older with subjective memory complaints and dementia-related risk factors. Participants will complete a screening process using selected tools, potentially including a validated cognitive screening instrument and a digital self-administered tool.

Dementia screening in primary health care using GPCOG.

Lead entity: LIETUVOS SVEIKATOS MOKSLU UNIVERSITETAS

This pilot implements systematic early cognitive screening in primary health care (PHC) using the GPCOG and MoCA tools. Patients aged 40–85 with hypertension and selected comorbidities or risk factors attend a one-time structured assessment at the LSMU Hospital Kauno Klinikos Family Medicine Department or are questioned/screened at home. PHC specialists are trained in standardised screening methods. Participants with suspected cognitive impairment are referred to a clinical psychologist and, where indicated, to a specialist according to the Lithuanian health care referral pathway. The pilot responds to the challenge of under-detection of cognitive decline at the PHC level and aims to establish an evidence-based action plan for dementia screening in Lithuania.
