Let Us Introduce JADEHealth’s New Stakeholder SEPAD

The Extremadura Service for the Promotion of Autonomy and Care for Dependency (SEPAD) was initiated based on the objectives and principles of Act 39/2006 of 14 December 2006, on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for Dependency. SEPAD is the background institution and is under the supervision of the Government of Extremadura.

SEPAD  is responsible for the administration and management of social and healthcare services, benefits and programmes, in accordance with the objectives and principles of the law on the Promotion of Personal Autonomy and Care for Dependent Persons, and is in charge of the development and coordination of social policies for the care of the elderly people, people living with disabilities, serious mental disorders, or being cognitively impaired.

Related to dementia SEPAD carries our multiple tasks like:

  • Maintain and develop the network of existing resources for the care of people with degenerative dementia of any aetiology.
  • Increase and/or specialise residential care places for people with degenerative dementia.
  • Detect and meet the care needs of people with cognitive impairment in the different SEPAD territorial divisions.
  • To develop the social and health care programme for people who suffered brain damage.
  • Developing care programmes for cognitive deficits in childhood.
  • Detect needs and make training proposals for professionals caring for people with cognitive impairment.
  • Establish alliances with associations of relatives of Alzheimer’s patients, people with brain damage and for children with cognitive deficits.
  • Support families of people living with cognitive impairment (due to degenerative dementia or brain damage) or children with cognitive deficits.

JADE Health looks forward to a fruitful cooperation with SEPAD making a real impact together in the life of people living with dementias, expanded to the improvement of their carers and families quality of life as well.

Sharing best practices in the field of policy development from preventive measures, early detection strategies to treatment options and the development of effective public policies, are all key to provide adequate care besides respecting and maintaining cognitively impaired people’s autonomy.

The collaboration with SEPAD will also contribute to raise societal awareness on dementia, Alzheimer and other neuro-degenerative diseases and provide targeted education to relatives, care professionals, and other key stakeholders.
