Observe World Alzheimer’s Day, Wear a Purple Bracelet or Ribbon!

In 1994, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) founded World Alzheimer’s Day to be observed each year on September 21.

Currently an estimated 44 million people in the world have Alzheimer’s disease. Almost every minute, someone receives an Alzheimer's diagnosis somewhere in the world, that means their life expectancy shrinks between 4 to 8 more years.

The disease is most common in Western Europe. Beyond the age of 65, the prevalence of Alzheimer's doubles every five years.

Wear purple on World Alzheimer’s Day 21st September, for someone you love, for every family still fighting as a tribute to caregivers, as a symbol of compassion, to express that no one should face Alzheimer's alone.

Communities throughout the world hold seminars and public events to spread awareness about Alzheimer’s, please join one! You may also use this occasion:

  • to donate free memory screening events in underserved communities.
  • Be part of any community programs that bring hope, support, and connection.
  • support Alzheimer's awareness and early-detection initiatives,
  • educational programmes for families and caregivers.
  • Consider to fund research
  • or volunteering your time, campaigning to improve experiences in care facilities.

There is no proven way to prevent Alzheimer's disease, however against the non-modifiable risk factors of Alzheimer's like age, genes, family history or air pollution, there are life style ways to reduce risks of developing it and delay cognitive decline.

These include:

  • skip smoking
  • no alcohol (or just moderate consumption)
  • keeping a healthy diet
  •  sleeping 8 hours a night
  • preserve cognitive and social engagement
  • carry on lifelong learning

JA JADE Health is committed to raising awareness & challenge stigma against people living with Alzheimer or dementia in order to make effective prevention and health management strategies are accessible to all.

By implementing our project, we work for improving health literacy & societal empathy, enhancing inclusive communities and wish to generate more inclusive responses for people living with dementia and their families.

Join us to reducing the burden of Alzheimer’s across Europe!
