JADE Health joins Alzheimer Europe at the European Parliament to strengthen Europe’s response to dementia

JADE Health joins Alzheimer Europe at the European Parliament to strengthen Europe’s response to dementia

From 31 August to 4 September 2026, the European Parliament in Brussels will host “Alzheimer Europe: Shaping Europe’s response to dementia”, an exhibition organised by Alzheimer Europe, a member of the JADE Health Stakeholder Network.

The exhibition brings dementia into the European policy arena, highlighting its current and future impact, progress achieved in recent years, persistent gaps and inequalities, and the actions needed to strengthen Europe’s response.

As a leading European organisation in the field of dementia, Alzheimer Europe plays an important role in bringing together people with dementia, carers, national Alzheimer’s associations, researchers and policymakers, and in ensuring that dementia remains visible in European policy discussions. Its work provides an important platform for sharing evidence, representing the perspectives of people affected by dementia and advocating for stronger European action.

The exhibition reflects several priorities shared by JADE Health: improving knowledge and awareness of dementia, tackling stigma and inequalities, strengthening stakeholder cooperation and keeping dementia high on the European policy agenda.

Understanding dementia and raising awareness

The exhibition highlights the scale and future impact of dementia in Europe, including how prevalence is expected to evolve towards 2050 and the implications for health and social care systems. It also addresses developments in Alzheimer’s disease treatment and differences in access across Europe.

These issues connect closely with JADE Health’s comprehensive approach, which covers the pathway from prevention and awareness to early detection, diagnosis, care and support.

Raising awareness is also essential to challenge misconceptions and negative perceptions of dementia. Through its work on health literacy, awareness raising and stigma, JADE Health seeks to improve understanding and contribute to more inclusive responses for people living with dementia and their families.

The evidence and key messages presented as part of the exhibition are available in Alzheimer Europe’s European Parliament exhibition booklet.

Addressing inequalities and strengthening policy action

A key message from Alzheimer Europe is that, despite progress in dementia research, policy, diagnosis and treatment, significant gaps and inequalities remain across Europe.

Addressing these differences requires coordinated action, knowledge exchange and sustained political attention. This European dimension is also central to JADE Health, which brings participating countries together to share experiences, test approaches and support the transfer of effective practices.

By holding the exhibition at the European Parliament, Alzheimer Europe is helping to keep dementia on the European political agenda, presenting evidence and recommendations to policymakers and calling for continued commitment and action.

This aligns with JADE Health’s approach: sustainable improvements in prevention, diagnosis, care and support require cooperation between policymakers, professionals, researchers, people living with dementia, carers and civil society.

Working with the European dementia community

Alzheimer Europe is an important member of the JADE Health Stakeholder Network, bringing extensive experience in dementia policy, advocacy, research and the involvement of people affected by dementia.

Its engagement helps connect JADE Health with the wider European dementia community and provides valuable perspectives as the Joint Action implements its activities across participating countries.

JADE Health’s presence at the exhibition is therefore part of this broader stakeholder engagement and an opportunity to follow and contribute to the European conversation around dementia.

Collaboration with organisations such as Alzheimer Europe will remain important for improving understanding of dementia, addressing stigma and inequalities, and supporting more coordinated responses across Europe.
