Synergies & Collaboration with ALZHEIMER-EUROPE
We proudly share the information that in the June 2025 issue of the Alzheimer Europe Magazine, an article about JADE Health was published in the Policy Watch section of the 48th edition of Dementia in Europe Magazine, written by Alzheimer Europe (pages 21–22).
On behalf of the JADE Health consortium Bernardino Morillo and Elisabeth García Alonso from Fundacion para la Formacion e Investigacion de los Profesionales de la Salud de Extremadura (FUNDESALUD), leaders of work package 1 introduced our Joint Action in the article.
Alzheimer Europe and its members fully commit to promoting the rights, dignity and autonomy of people living with dementia. These rights are universal, and guaranteed in the European Convention of Human Rights, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Covenants on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights and Civil and Political Rights, and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
Alzheimer Europe has the mission:
-
to change perceptions, policy and practice in order to improve the lives of people affected by dementia
-
provide a voice to people with dementia and their carers,
-
making dementia a European priority,
-
changing perceptions and combating stigma,
-
raising awareness of brain health and prevention,
The above mission entails that all member organisations of Alzheimer Europe work for the goal affirming that every person living with dementia has:
- The right to a timely diagnosis;
- The right to access quality post diagnostic support;
- The right to person-centred, coordinated, quality care throughout their life;
- The right to equitable access to treatments and therapeutic interventions;
- The right to be respected as an individual in their community.
Alzheimer Europe and its foundation established the Anti-Stigma Award in 2022 to recognise outstanding work combating stigma and promoting positive image of dementia and people living with it.
Kate Boor-Ellis, communication officer of Alzheimer Europe, kept a great presentation at our recent online communication workshop “Optimising Outreach: Communication and Dissemination Strategies for Dementia-related projects” organised 20th May 2025, honouring the European Mental Health Week. She informed the audience of the workshop about the principles and most important activities of Alzheimer Europe showcasing how the organisation gives a voice to people living with dementia as well as for their caregivers and families, and stressed the key importance of including people with lived experiences when organisations create strategies, events and design services.
We are grateful for Alzheimer Europe for their support and look forward to further cooperation with this prestigious organisation!
