Strengthening Intersectoral Collaboration in Healthcare and Social Work

The Department of Bioethics, a division of the Faculty of Public Health at LSMU Medical Academy, in cooperation with the National Association of Health Social Workers, hosted its annual scientific-practical conference: "The Social Aspect of Health: Social Work in the Healthcare System" on 17 April 2026 in Kaunas.

The event was attended by over 60 social workers employed in different healthcare institutions. The theme of the event was aligned with the 2026 global theme of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW). The topics discussed addressed the growing need for intersectoral collaboration to enhance patient well-being and social inclusion.

Associate Professor dr. Lina Danuseviciene kept her presentation with the title: "JADE Health Initiatives to Improve Dementia Care in Lithuania", and hihglighted major aims of the project as well as spoke about the progress achieved so far by our Joint Action.

24-25 April 2026 the Congress of Lithuanian Psychologists – one of the most important events in Lithuania uniting psychologists, scientists and practitioners of all fields- was hosted by the Department of Health Psychology of the Faculty of Public Health of LSMU

The event attracted a large audience, over 230 attendees, consisting of psychologists, psychotherapists, social workers, public health specialists and physicians.

Prof. Dr. Ida Liseckiene, the dean of the Faculty of Public Health at LSMU, presented critical advancements in early dementia and neurodegenerative diseases detection.

Her presentation, "Improving Dementia Care in Lithuania: Early Diagnosis, Integrated Care, and Innovative Solutions," showcased developments in the management of dementia and neurodegenerative diseases and highlighted the role of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences as an associate partner in JADE Health and the contribution of LSMU researchers to improving public health.

The professor underlined the particularly important role of JADE Health and its efforts to raise awareness, improve knowledge and enhance a better understanding of neurodegenerative diseases in society among healthcare professionals, and congratulated the multidisciplinary LSMU team working in the JA, who are responsible for improving methods for early diagnosis and post-diagnostic care.

She also stressed that LSMU is committed to assist developing person-centred care models by using remote monitoring systems, and that integrated and continuous care should be based on established methodological guidelines, an essential prerequisite for ensuring patients’ quality of life and maintaining their independence in their home environment for as long as possible.
