SESPA neurologist Manuel Menéndez presents the European JADE Health Project at the “Tecnología con Propósito” Conference in Salamanca
On November 14, neurologist Manuel Menéndez, from the Health Service of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA) and member of the European JADE Health project, presented this initiative during the conference “Tecnología con Propósito: Soluciones Digitales para el Cuidado de la Salud Cerebral” (Technology with Purpose: Digital Solutions for Brain Health Care), held in Salamanca. The event, organized by our stakeholder Fundación de Neurociencias and the State Reference Centre for the Care of People with Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias (CREA–Imserso), brought together around 70 participants, including healthcare professionals, researchers, caregivers, institutional representatives and members of the general public.
Under the theme “Digital Solutions for Brain Health Care”, the conference aimed to promote knowledge, foster collaboration and showcase innovative approaches to support cognitive health, with a particular focus on prevention, digital inclusion and the application of emerging technologies in social and healthcare settings.
During his presentation, Dr. Menéndez described the structure, objectives and participating institutions of JADE Health, emphasizing the project’s commitment to developing digital tools that improve access to care, strengthen prevention strategies and support decision-making in dementia and other brain health conditions. He explained how the initiative integrates digital health models, innovative digital health models and rigorous digital health models to determine their added value in real-world sociosanitary contexts.
The scientific programme included several additional contributions that highlighted the diversity of technological and therapeutic approaches currently under development:
- Brain health and digital challenges: Paula Prieto (Fundación de Neurociencias) presented the DIGITAL project, focused on supporting people with cognitive impairment, while Mariana López (Fundación de Neurociencias) and Natalia Arcajo (ZIES) explained the DIGIMENTAL project, aimed at promoting digital inclusion among older adults.
- Humanising care through technology: Mireia Tofiño García, occupational therapist at CREA-Imserso, discussed the use of robotherapy and artificial intelligence as complementary tools in therapeutic interventions, highlighting their potential to enhance emotional support and engagement.
- Neural networks and bioinformatics: In the closing session, Rubén Deogracias Pastor (iBRAINS–INCYL) explored the intersection of neural networks, digital health and bioinformatics, illustrating how advanced computational methods are opening new pathways for understanding and addressing brain-related conditions.
The conference concluded with a collective reflection session, underscoring the importance of integrating science, technology and clinical practice to advance digital solutions that improve wellbeing and promote high-quality care for people with cognitive disorders.
With its multidisciplinary contributions and strong emphasis on innovation, the event provided an ideal setting to showcase the JADE Health project, reinforcing the collective commitment to delivering person-centred, technologically informed approaches to brain health and dementia care.
